We're hosting a session at the Ocean Sciences Meeting 2026

Updated: Sep 25

For those of you planning to attend the Ocean Sciences Meeting in Glasgow, Scotland next February, please know that Tracey Sutton and I will be convening session 255771 in the  Marine Ecology and Biodiversity Theme, titled "ME013: The Deep-Pelagic Realm as a Nexus for Ecological Connectivity".

The more we learn about the inhabitants of the open oceans, the more we're seeing that it is a highly open and connected biome: pelagic fauna are vital prey for a suite of deep-diving (e.g., economically important fishes, and several marine mammals), nocturnal (e.g., seabirds), and deep-living (e.g., dragonfishes) predators, and their diel vertical migrations are a key pathway in the active biological carbon pump. Oceanic rim assemblages connect offshore and inshore fauna, and facilitate benthopelagic coupling.

In this session, we invite presentations exploring the ecology and biodiversity of oceanic zooplankton, micronekton, and nekton and particularly invite studies exploring faunal connectivity between the deep-pelagic realm and surrounding ecosystems. If you have work you think is appropriate for this session, you can submit your abstract: HERE.

If you have any questions you're welcome to reach out to myself or Tracey Sutton and we'll do our best to answer.
