I was delighted to be an invited participant at the Ocean Twilight Zone Symposium, hosted by WHOI and JETZON. The workshop, titled "Biodiversity, Ecology, and the Biological Carbon Pump in the Ocean Twilight Zone" was held from the 13-20th September 2023 at Woods Hole, MA and featured two sessions: the first focused on biodiversity, biomass distributions, vertical migration patterns, and trophic relationships, while the second session focused on biogeochemical modelling and data needs. The workshop hosted an array of invited, international experts in these fields and comprised a mix of plenary talks, panel discussions, workshop discussions, and poster sessions with a view towards generating review papers, establishing new collaborations, and establishing the current state-of-the-art in mesopelagic research.
Overall, it was a great opportunity to meet some new faces, catch up with some old friends, and nerd out about deep-sea research for the best part of a week!

My attendance at this event was supported by funding from my NAS Early Career Fellowship.
